The Educational Psychology Service is one of several centrally based, specialist support teams within the “Wider Achievement” area of the Children and Young People’s Service.
The CYPS has recently undergone significant reorganisation at senior management levels, and is now in the process of implementing a major improvement plan. Despite concerns about the future of public sector finances, there is recognition of the potential contribution which educational psychologists can make in supporting this plan, and consequently of the need to increase the present capacity of the Service.
As well as providing an educational psychology service to schools and early years settings, our small and friendly team of dedicated psychologists has been developing a role in the wider community, engaging in preventative and collaborative working e.g. contributing to the development of parenting programmes in the Borough; supporting services for LAC, including input to fostering and adoption panels; and working closely with NHS colleagues to develop an effective multi-disciplinary system for assessment and diagnosis of ASD.
Recent developments in the EPS include the establishment of ‘consultation surgeries’, giving schools easier access to psychologists.
Continuing professional development is encouraged and supported through regular in-service CPD sessions and by access to external courses where appropriate.
A formal peer-group supervision system is also in place to support individuals in their professional practise.
We wish to appoint to a full-time, permanent post in the Service and seek an enthusiastic, committed and self-motivated person who can work flexibly and rise to new challenges.
The successful applicant would have responsibility for providing an educational psychology service to schools and local communities within specified areas of the Borough.
Applications are invited from qualified EPs and also from Trainee EPs expecting to qualify this September. Trainee EPs due to commence their second or third year of training could be considered for employment in a ‘Trainee’ capacity.
The successful applicant will benefit from:
- Office accommodation in a central location, with free on-site parking and excellent links to rail/motorway networks
- Dedicated, high quality administrative support
- Excellent IT facilities (laptop and/or PC with access to email and internet)
- Flexible working arrangements
- A friendly and supportive team of colleagues
