This volunteering opportunity is for 16-18 year olds
Come along and help the young people of Doncaster develop the reading habit!
This is an exciting opportunity to help us make a difference to the young people of Doncaster.
The Reading Development team would welcome your enthusiasm to inspire the young people of Doncaster. Some of you may be considering applying for University, Doncaster Libraries would be honoured to support your applications, to validate volunteering. We are looking to recruit approximately 30 young people to inspire our young readers across Doncaster.
Every year there is a national initiative throughout England to encourage young people to read over the summer break. Doncaster Libraries seek to recruit volunteers to assist in the following:-
-Registering children on the challenge
-Encouraging children to participate on the challenge
-Explaining to children and their parents the benefits of participating
-Encourage children to discuss what they enjoy reading/learning
-To present rewards
-To assist with Displays/Promotions
-To assist the Reading Development Team deliver activities across the borough
-To help children use the Summer Reading Challenge website
This year’s summer reading challenge, which will run from Saturday 3rd of July until Sunday 4th September, is themed around cosmic travel and is called Space Hop. Children aged mainly 4 to 12 years old will be invited to try to read six books during the summer holidays. Young readers are given free stickers and goodies via libraries as they progress through the challenge and a certificate and medal is given to them once they complete it.
