If you are 16 - 24 and want to start building your career, an Apprenticeship programme with Doncaster Council is the perfect way. You will have chance to learn new skills, gain qualifications and earn a training allowance.
You will gain on the job experience attend off the job training and work towards qualifications including NVQ 2 in your chosen area, with an opportunity of working towards NVQ 3, preparing you for the world of work. We will help you all the way with quality training and support from experienced Doncaster Council staff. Your contribution will help us to deliver a ‘Winning Council’

Apprentices within Doncaster Council were recently awarded their Full Apprenticeship Framework Certificates, on achievement of qualifications, which included NVQ at Levels 2, 3 or 4 in Customer Service, Information Technology or Administration. The Apprenticeship Achievement Award ceremony was held at the Mansion House and framed certificates were presented by Kay Leigh - Corporate Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development.

What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are a programme of work-based training and education. Apprenticeships include the following basic elements:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
- Key Skills, e.g. communication and application of number
- A technical certificate
- Other qualifications or requirements as specified by the particular occupation.
How long does an Apprenticeship last?
There is not a set time to complete Apprenticeships as they vary widely in content and size. The length of time taken will depend on the ability of the individual apprentice and employer requirements. Local learning and Skills Council Apprenticeships take a maximum of 15 months while Advanced Apprenticeships take a maximum of 24 months.
How old can I be to do an Apprenticeship?
A young person needs to be between 16 and 24 to join an Apprenticeship.
What skills and qualifications will I need to enter an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships vary on the requirements for entry but generally they are designed to attract capable young people who have the ability and motivation to undergo the training involved and to complete the Apprenticeship.
How much time do I spend at work?
The programme is full time, which is 37 hours per week. You’ll be at work for most of your time as most training is on-the-job. You will complete off-the-job training on day release.

Do I have to pay anything to become an Apprentice?
No. It's free and you get a training allowance of £80 per week.
